The World Intelligent Manufacturing Summit (WIMS) 2018, co-hosted by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Academy of Engineering and China Association for Science and Technology, was held in Nanjing on October 11. Themed Empowering the Future Through Intelligent Manufacturing and featuring four events of WIMS Launch Event, WIMS Global Summit, WIMS Global Carnival and WIMS Global Expo, it was another high-end summit of international presence for exchanges and explorations in global intelligent manufacturing.
At the WIMS Launch Event initiated from the summit, experts and scholars specializing in intelligent manufacturing from home and abroad gathered and witnessed with over 200 guests seven landmark achievements in four major sections including the White Paper of Blockchain--Industry 4.0 New Structural Platform and the Research Achievements of Basic General Standards for Intelligent Manufacturing in the first section of Prospective Study, the Industrial Map for Intelligent Manufacturing in the second section of Industrial Study, the World’s Top Ten Sci-tech Breakthroughs in Intelligent Manufacturing and China’s Top Ten Sci-tech Breakthroughs in Intelligent Manufacturing in the fourth section of WIMS List released by the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of China Association for Science and Technology Member Societies and other three achievements in the third sector of Case Study and in the second section. All these achievements offered a new window for people in all walks of life to catch the world-advanced technologies, applications and examples in the intelligent manufacturing field, and also gave a new perspective and a new direction for Chinese or even global intelligent manufacturing.
In the Prospective Study section, Nanjing Tangsiku Blockchain Research Institute, a subordinate of Jiangsu Jingxin Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, and Blockchain Research Institute of the Don Tapscott Group jointly released the Chinese version of the White Paper of Blockchain--Industry 4.0 New Structural Platform, which gave an accurate analysis and a clear-cut evaluation framework of blockchain, and revealed four valuable applications of blockchain technology in the manufacturing industry. The Research Achievements of Basic General Standards for Intelligent Manufacturing released by the National General Group for Intelligent Manufacturing Standardization and Publishing House of Electronics Industry included 16 basic general standards for intelligent manufacturing, chiefly the research results in areas related to smart plants/digital workshops.
In the Industrial Study section, the Industrial Map for Intelligent Manufacturing released by China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT (CAICT) contained data about benchmark companies, key technological equipment and software, system integrator and digital workshops, which displayed the development trend and dynamics of intelligent manufacturing enterprises and set up a scientific and objective system for monitoring the development of intelligent manufacturing industry. The Annual Report of China Robot Development 2017-2018 released by China Economic Information Service showed that the production of industrial robots in China was expected to exceed 130,000 in 2017, around one third of the global output. And till the first half of 2018, there has been over 2,200 robot enterprises, of which five are among the top twenty in terms of the sales volume of robot body.
In the Case Study section, the Best Exploration of a New Model for Intelligent Manufacturing released by CAICT showed that achievements in intelligent manufacturing would promote the application and spread of the experience in developing related programs, industries and areas. Shanghai Manufacturing Innovation Center of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Co., Ltd. (MIC-IMS) released its 1000Found Cloud, a platform for automation service of intelligent manufacturing knowledge, which boasts of customers of over 5,000 enterprises, 5,000 plans and data of 50,000 equipment and products of industrial chains. The platform, it said, would update in real time all standards, patents and policies and other information related to intelligent manufacturing.
In the fourth section of WIMS List, the World’s Top Ten Sci-tech Breakthroughs in Intelligent Manufacturing and China’s Top Ten Sci-tech Breakthroughs in Intelligent Manufacturing, released by the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of China Association for Science and Technology Member Societies, were mainly sci-tech achievements attended by industrial players and experts and influential for the growth of intelligent manufacturing. They were picked up for a grasp of the development trend of intelligent manufacturing and for a guidance for its growth here in China.
As a top platform for cooperation and exchanges in intelligent manufacturing, the WIMS 2018 helps promote the application and spread of advanced sci-tech achievements through its press conference of these results, enables a better grasp of latest dynamics at home and abroad, and boosts deeper cooperation in intelligent manufacturing across the world through insightful discussions of its future global development.
